Amadablam Expedition 6812M
Ama Dablam 6812m, popularly known as “Matterhorn of Himalaya” lies in the Himalayan range of Eastern Nepal. In native terms - Ama Dablam means “Mother’s Necklace”, “Ama” means mother, and “Dablam” means the traditional double-pendant containing pictures of gods worn by Sherpa women. The long ridge on each side of the mountain resembles the arms of a mother protecting her child and the hanging glacier is thought of as a necklace. The interesting fact about the Ama Dablam is that when the team of Sir Edmund Hillary summited the mountain for the first time, the then king of Nepal nearly imprisoned him for climbing the sacred mountain without taking permission.
The first summit to Ama Dablam was made on 13 March 1961 by Mike Gill (NZ), Barry Bishop (USA), Mike Ward (UK), and Wally Romanes (NZ) via the Southwest Ridge. Ama Dablam offers a varied climb through the Himalayan rock, ice, and snow. The climb is technical but accomplishable. The mountain can make a base for your future climb to Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Mount Everest. Usually, Two High camps will be set along the ridge. The climb up to Camp 1 is moderate, and the ascent from there is challenging along the crystalline ridge. It gets more technical as we go up from camp 2. On a summit push, we go around the hanging glacier, then cross a sharp mountain ridge and a crevasse between the ice cliffs and making to the summit.
