Mt K2 Expedition

Mount K2 8611M is the second-highest mountain in the world located in the China-Pakistan; is also known as “Savage Mountain” due to the extreme difficulty of ascent. Although the summit of Everest is at a higher altitude, K2 is a more difficult and dangerous climb, because of its more inclement weather and comparatively greater height from base to peak. The summit was reached for the first time by the Italian climbers Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni on the 1954 Italian Karakoram expedition led by Ardito Desio. It is more difficult and hazardous to reach the peak of K2 from the Chinese side, so it is usually climbed from the Pakistani side. Ascents have almost always been made in July and August, the warmest times of the year; Mount K2's more northern location makes it more susceptible to inclement and colder weather.

Climbing the world's second-highest mountain is much more strenuous and challenging but surely possible if you can dream it. Rockfall and snow avalanches are common on the route following K2’s Abruzzi ridge, making it often unsafe to climb or camp, and the monolithic ice cliff which overhangs the “bottleneck” and “traverse” portions of the route on summit day sheds ice frequently, so taking advantage of good route conditions and moving quickly are paramount.
