Lhotse Expedition

Mount Lhotse stands at 8,561m elevation and is the fourth highest mountain in the world, located at the border of Nepal and Tibet. The summit of Lhotse (by the southeast ridge) was scaled by Ernst Reiss and Fritz Luchsinger who were the part of Swiss Expedition team on May 18, 1956.

The standard climbing route of the Mt. Lhotse Expedition follows the same route as Mt. Everest’s South Col route to the Yellow Band beyond Camp 3. From Yellow Band, the route separates, Everest towards the left while Lhotse to the right further up to the Lhotse face. The last part to the summit leads through a deep scar, an icy gully known as the Lhotse Reiss Couloir which is the crucial test for climbing Lhotse, mainly because the climbing conditions are affected by weather and seasonal snowfall. You also have the option of making the Double 8ooom ascent as a combo climb, making the ascent directly after your Everest summit from South Col.

Climbing the fourth highest mountain in the world is strenuous and challenging but surely possible if you can dream it. Exposure to extreme altitudes, severe weather conditions, inherent risks, and hazards make the climbing process adventurous and thrilling yet rewarding.
